Where Have I Been? (Cozy Update + Coral Island)
Also, I didn't think to say it during the video, but f*ck Humble execs for quietly shutting down the publishing studio and causing the awesome Coral Island devs so much trouble right after they released an amazing new update. The video game industry is so cooked and it makes me sad...

And I do agree that the game is a bit too easy, but then again, the first time you beat the game, you unlock a hard mode option for new files.

    Neat video. Where's Dimensions and Dimensions II? Did I miss it lol? QWQ Not sure if you've played them, but they're both solid RPGs. FFD is basically FFV mixed with FFIIII in terms of gameplay and story. FFDII I will admit can be hit or miss because of its original gacha mobile gamd design. However, it has the the combat of FFX, a system based on the magicite system from FFVI, and a story that utilizes elements from Chrono Trigger and the scrapped Chrono Break game. Maybe a sequel video one day to explore more stuff? :0

  • @matthewrice2152
    @matthewrice2152 6 месяцев назад

    For me, a retrospective on these older games is putting yourself in the time with only knowledge of the events leading up to it, not necessarily looking back through a 30+ year lens with everything that has come since. This looks and sounds like to me is an instance of Link to the Past burnout by members of a community who play it because it's an easy way to attract viewers to your channel, videos, live streams, etc but simply don't care for the game. So it's more work than fun, and the criticisms feel like they come from playing the game dozens of times ( or maybe more ), compared to just once or twice. Not liking the game is totally fine. There are probably many games on top 10 lists I don't enjoy. The "scattered thoughts" you're talking about in this game for me comes off more like politics where you're not trying to offend your base.

    • @ZeroScore
      @ZeroScore 6 месяцев назад

      I appreciate your thoughtful insight, but with all due respect, retrospective literally means looking back... To me the point is to re-analyze it through a modern lens to see how a view has changed over time. And this is how I've done the whole series so far (I'm hardly trying to cash in on lttp attention... If I was I would have been more positive because angering the super fans certainly hasn't done me any favors). I agree that putting yourself in the time IS a way to do videos like this, but I'd argue that's not the point of a retrospective. This video did feel like work though... I debated skipping it but had promised a full series retrospective so instead I just decided to share my honest, scattered thoughts as someone who ISN'T the biggest fan of it. There's countless retrospectives praising the game, after all, so at least I could provide a unique perspective, even if people very vocally disagree (even my bro said he was mad at me, and we both grew up with the game :p)

      Haha my man! Hope to see you back next time. I will ALWAYS share my positive and negative thoughts on games I cover, that's the point of a critique (too many people get lost in their nostalgia and forget to actually analyze objectively) but LA is one of my favorites so it'll be a much more positive video. Which means it probably won't do nearly as well cause the fanboys won't come blast me in the comments like they are this time...but hey, I'll take the engagement, I don't care if they're haters.

    • @ZeroScore
      @ZeroScore 6 месяцев назад

      I do actually... I don't know if you actually watched the whole video or just noticed I didn't immediately praise everything about this game and then came to the comments, but I specifically called out how impressive and important it was to gaming at the time. Just because I don't actually like it that much doesn't mean I can't still respect what it accomplished. Everything is so black and white now... Like it's not as simple as "this game is a masterpiece so you're not allowed to say anything negative about it" I can respect it and still acknowledge that it has flaws. But it also achieved things that to this day haven't been done better, so that deserves recognition too. ACTUAL critical thought requires an analysis from all sides, not just nostalgia fueled praise for half an hour.

    Great retrospective, I disagree with some things, however, that's what make gaming unique, we all get something different from a game, and how we see it. I love the dungeons and can navigate 99% of them blind, but yeah, I hated the skull dungeon the most as well.

    • @ZeroScore
      @ZeroScore 6 месяцев назад

      I can acknowledge there's benefit to straight forward back and slash dungeons... I mean it's what the genre was founded on and a lot of people love those classic dungeon crawl games. I just prefer the creativity and gimmicks of later Zelda dungeons and these especially feel unnecessarily convoluted but also way too simple. Like when the required path is just wrapping around the same generic rooms multiple times because of one way blocks, it feels like padding. But like you said, to each their own! I know this is one of your favorites and I'm glad we can agree to disagree :)

I WILL do step by step reviews if my thoughts require it, but it's still more of a linear overview, not a WALKTHROUGH

    Wtf, the Tifa stuff was so unecessary and doesn't make any sense lol. Besides Tifa being super strong, she's really kind hearted and would never talk to Cloud that way.

      *shrug* it's just an optional Easter egg joke, it's not meant to be true to her character.

    I’ve been looking for venture kid for awhile now cuz I missed this game. I always think of it and then can’t remember it. It’s not on the App Store anymore, so I couldn’t find it. I also love how many incredible hidden secrets are in each level. Secret walls, jumping puzzles, etc. it’s so good

    I've played with a lot of these mods except for the voice acting mod, since I was playing new threat (A friend of mine wanted Aerith to live lol). The people saying the vas are bad just gotta understand that these people did all this voice acting on their free time. I do wanna try it sometime tho, it looks fun!

      Exactly! It's no wonder so many modders give up since the community is so harsh and ungrateful...like it's a TON of work and it's OPTIONAL just for the people that like it and want to use it. The haters act like it's some ultimate sin that any of it even exists. I'm just trying to raise awareness, not force people to use it :p

    You lost me when you said, “Let’s face it, ff7 hasn’t aged very well.” Wtf are you smoking.

      Okay listen...to each their own if you think it still looks great, but all I'll say is that nostalgia is a powerful bias. I think I argued my point pretty well comparing it to the other entries on the same console that DO hold up better. FF7 just has a weird art style that doesn't match anything else. I can get not liking how THESE remastered characters look, but I like them because they're fairly similar shaped, just more detail (just like the ff8 and ff9 models)

      @@ZeroScore To each their own, I guess. I can’t stand the added detail to clouds hair, for example. Looks like it’s greased and slicked back, in the mod. Completely changes his personality, in my opinion. I like the charm of the original graphics. Maybe if they just sharpened everything, yeah. But they added detail where there was no sense adding detail.

      @@fritospie7982 I agree, but in the defense of the mod...what is his hair SUPPOSED to look like in the back? They kept all the same polygons, so it's just kind of a round blob back there otherwise. His in-game hair is frankly just inaccurate compared to renders, cutscenes, etc.

    The other mods you showed are super cool and interested me in doing the same, but oh man those voices are uh...yeah...yikes

    • @ZeroScore
      @ZeroScore 6 месяцев назад

      I'll admit, the reason I never did a story play on ff7 is because those characters have established voices and I knew that my non-professional friends trying to mimic them would just sound off so I focused on games that didn't have known voices for the characters...but I still applaud this team for putting in the effort, even if I agree the voices could be better. I've mostly just gotten so used to voiced dialogue these days that I think I prefer it over reading, regardless >.<

    Cringe with all the cursing

    • @ZeroScore
      @ZeroScore 6 месяцев назад

      To be fair, that's one of the only sections I've played so far with added cursing and it's an optional Easter egg from missing the mini game too much (I think it literally took like a minute and a half of other tame responses first) but I agree it's unnecessary. I will say it's tough to adapt the original script which had a bunch of implied cursing with the censoring in the text boxes... Clearly these characters, mainly Barret, ARE vulgar... But it's still a little out of place. Just know that's a very specific (and again optional) example I just found kinda funny
